Proposed ADU Housing
Los Angeles, CA
This proposal for the LA LowRise competition envisions accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and a community garden on already existing 50-by-150-foot residential corner lots. This highly reproducible model aims to help solve the housing crisis in Los Angeles by increasing housing density and income opportunities for lots that are currently zoned as “single family.”
Contextual elements and formal inspiration for the units are derived from the many existing bungalow housing and gable-roof single family houses that LA has to offer. Incorporating elemental motifs from traditional styles, this formal decomposition of the archetypal “home” within the neighborhood context delivers modern architecture and amenities while still maintaining the sense of home and appropriate scale.
