Stephen Charles Smith Architects is a full-service, bespoke architecture and interior design studio focusing on Residential, Commercial, and Mixed-Use projects. The studio strives to create thoughtful, elegant, contemporary architecture and design with careful consideration of construction and craft. 

Stephen is a Registered Architect in Connecticut and Rhode Island, a LEED AP, and has been an active member of the AIA community. At AIA CT, Stephen was Chair of the Emerging Architectural Community Committee, served on the Intern Task Force, and was a member of the Board of Directors from 2010-2011. Stephen has also sat on the Board of Directors of the ACE (Architecture, Construction, Engineering) Mentor Program in New Haven from 2010-2015.

Prior to starting his own practice, Stephen was a Designer, Architect, and Project Manager at several leading architecture firms for over 10 years, including Rafael Vinoly Architects in New York, NY and Silver/Petrucelli + Associates in Hamden, CT. He has extensive experience across a broad range of building types and scales: private residential, multi-family housing, restaurant design, tall building design, retail, mixed-use, historic preservation, commercial interiors, cultural facilities, government offices, banks, libraries, schools and educational buildings, fire/emergency response, corporate headquarters, hotels, and furniture design.

When he isn’t in the office, Stephen is also an Assistant Professor of Architecture at University of Hartford. At Uhart, he is the founder and director of the Architecture Summer Institute, a summer program for High School students, and has also served as the Manager of the Woodshop and Digital Fabrication Lab. Stephen previously taught Architecture and Interior Design at University of New Haven, Barnard College, Harlem Academy, and has been an invited design critic at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.
